ALLENTOWN, PA— The Allentown School District is excited to announce the successful negotiation and agreement of a new five-year contract with the District’s custodial and maintenance employees.
The agreement, which is retroactive to July 1, 2025, and extends through June 30, 2030, marks a significant milestone for the District. It represents a collaborative effort to highly compensate our valued facilities staff while simultaneously securing critical operational flexibility and efficiency for the District’s schools and taxpayers.
“Our custodial and maintenance teams are the backbone of our daily operations, ensuring our students and staff have safe, clean, and welcoming environments to learn and work,” said Interim Chief Financial Officer Richard Fazio. “This contract proudly recognizes their hard work with substantial wage increases while implementing strategic changes that allow the District to manage our workforce more effectively and efficiently.”
Highlights of the new agreement include:
- Staff will receive significant wage increases retroactive to July 1, 2025. To maintain fiscal responsibility, these retroactive earnings will be distributed over a 10-month period.
- A new part-time classification ($25.00/hour with tailored leave benefits) allows the District to efficiently cover operational gaps and maintain high facility standards.
- Health insurance is aligned with Allentown Education Association (AEA) plans. Full-time staff retain a robust leave package including 16 paid holidays, 4 personal days, and 11 sick days alongside a $50,000 life insurance benefit.
- Starting wages range from $20.00 to $25.00, depending on the role.
